On a sunny morning in April, an expedition comprised of Karanović & Nikolić's lawyers from various departments, set across the Vojvodina plains of Serbia for a client visit to Vršac. Our host and client on this occasion, Fresenius Medical Care, welcomed our group in the company's production headquarters and gave us a presentation on the company's background and history, before taking us for a tour around the Serbian branch of their enterprise.

We learned about the origins of Fresenius Medical Care, including the fact that it was initially founded as a mobile pharmacy by Dr Eduard Fresenius in Germany, and how over a century of operation it slowly evolved first into a seller, and then into a producer of medical equipment – specialised in helping to treat kidney failure. Nowadays, the company represents the leading global provider of dialysis treatments and a producer of the full-scope of dialysis machines and equipment, active in over 150 jurisdictions worldwide. After finding out some further impressive statistics related to the company, including the fact that their Serbian branch alone employs approximately 1000 people, the friendly hosts from Fresenius' took us on a tour of the production facilities. With a slew of questions aimed at our guides, some of them relating to particular areas of expertise, and some hailing from sheer curiosity, we followed them throughout the facility, all the while becoming acquainted with different stages of medical equipment production and many – especially to an outsider eye – previously unknown processes (assembly line, sterilisation system, etc.) involved.

As the tour of the facilities slowly came to an end, we thanked our hosts for their attention and hospitality (not forgetting to ask for tips on nearby places to eat), and then took some time documenting this visit through a couple of photographs. After a very good meal (our hosts excelled in this regard as well) and a short walk across the town, we were back on our way to Belgrade, equipped with new knowledge and richer for the experience.
