On 18 May 2016, the Belgrade Chamber of Commerce hosted a working breakfast on the topic of "Alternative Dispute Resolution Mechanisms – Mediation and Arbitration". The event was organised by the Turn Around Management Association Serbia (TMA Serbia), in cooperation with ADR Partners and the Belgrade Arbitration Centre.
The speaking panel consisted of leading judges, professors and arbitrators, with an attendance of around 30 participants, which mostly consisted of practicing lawyers, as well as in-house experts within banks, insurance companies and other corporates. The participants, among other things, discussed the difficulties that the current court system is facing and the need to promote and utilise alternative dispute resolution mechanisms such as mediation and arbitration. A number of benefits which such processes may have for the participants were outlined, while unfamiliarity with the functioning of these alternative mechanisms, especially, mediation, is recognised as one of the factors that currently hinders their wider use.
This was the second event organised by TMA Serbia this year for its members and other relevant invitees. TMA Serbia is an international affiliate of Turn Around Management Association (TMA), which is a global non-profit organisation that brings together experts in the field of restructuring that deal with different aspects of the recovery of economic entities.
